On March 21st, we had a newborn calf get out of the fence and get stuck in one of the ponds. He was almost frozen when he was found. We thought his back legs had been paralyzed. A large animal vet/chiropractor confirmed he was not paralyzed but had experienced a massive muscle spasm that locked up his legs during his struggle. James has spent from March 21st to yesterday, May 29th, nursing and caring for Walter. Unfortunately, Walter needed more care than we can give at this time. He has mobility issues preventing him from walking upright on his own for extended periods. We reached out to over a dozen animal sanctuaries to see if any had room for Walter, and only one did! Yesterday, a Full Circle Farm Sanctuary team made the 4+ hour drive to pick up Walter! Full Circle Farm Sanctuary provides a safe and loving forever home to formerly farmed, abused, and neglected animals. While Walter does not fall under any of those categories, FCFS can provide him a safe and forever home full of the care and attention he requires. Many of us raised on farms or work on farms understand that death is often the way of life on a farm and often can sometimes be the more humane option if the ability to care for and rehab the animal is not an option. We did not want to have to choose that option, so we are beyond thankful for FCFS. Full Circle Farm Sanctuary is evaluating him and will post updates on Walter once their medical team establishes the full scope of his injuries and devise a plan.
